Itinerary of trek

After breakfast, we will take an early morning flight to Lukla from Kathmandu. The adventurous flight lands on the Tenzing-Hillary airport. This airport has one of the smallest airstrips in the world.

You can see the breathtaking views of the snow-capped mountains from the flight. Upon your arrival at Lukla airport, we will start our trek to Phakding. The trail leads us to a suspension bridge over the Dudh Koshi River to arrive at Phakding. After arriving at Phakding, we will stay overnight at a local teahouse.

After an early breakfast, we will start our trek alongside the Dudh Koshi River. We will cross several suspension bridges along the trail and pass through several villages, chortens, and monasteries.

We can observe the breathtaking views of Mt. Thamserku along the trail. We will show our trekking permits at Monjo checking point to enter the Sagarmatha National Park. A gradual walk leads us to Jorsale before we arrive at Namche Bazaar.

We then walk along the river bed and cross the Hillary Suspension Bridge. You will get the breathtaking views of the Kwangde Peak, Mt. Everest, Kangaru peak, Kusum peak, Tawache, Lhotse. We will stay overnight at a teahouse in Namche.

After breakfast, we will start our acclimatization and exploration of Namche Bazaar. Acclimatization is essential for adapting to the changing high altitude conditions during the trek. Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) is common among trekkers in this region. Hence, acclimatizing at Namche will help you tackle these difficulties.

We will hike to Khumjung village and also visit the Syangboche viewpoint from where we observe the Himalayan vista. The tour of the quaint streets of Namche Bazaar is also on the cards. We can also observe the Sherpa culture and their expedition achievements in the famous Sherpa museum.

Moreover, you can also visit the Khumjung monastery which has a yeti scalp. We can observe the majestic views of Kongde, Khumbila, and Thamserku from Syangboche. The Everest View Hotel in Syangboche provides an incredible view of Mt. Everest. These various acclimatization hikes will lessen the risk of altitude sickness. You will stay overnight at a lodge in Namche. 

After breakfast, we will start our trek from Namche to Dole after a day of acclimatization at Namche. The trail leads us to an altitude above 4000m; hence acclimatization is essential. The hike is long and tiring but exciting as well.

We will pass through the dense forests observing the breathtaking views of Mt. Everest, Ama Dablam, and Lhotse. You can also explore the Sherpa culture and heritage. We arrive at Dole after a trek of 6-7 hours from Namche and stay overnight at a local teahouse.

After breakfast, we will start our trek from Dole to Machhermo. The trail leads us to some gradual path with pine and oak forests. You will pass through a steep trail with beautiful landscapes. We can observe the magnificent views of the snow-capped mountains, including Thamserku, Cho Oyu, Kantega, and other peaks.

The trail then leads us along the Dudh Koshi River as we pass through the Luza village. After trekking for some hours through gentle slopes, we arrive at Machhermo. We will stay overnight at a teahouse in Machhermo.

After breakfast, we will start our trek from Machhermo to Gokyo. The trails of this spectacular trek pass through the Sagarmatha National Park. The hike is uphill towards the Gokyo village.

We will pass through some rocky trails to arrive at Gokyo. You can also observe rare wildlife including snow leopard, Himalayan Tahr, Danphe, red Pandas, etc. You can also observe the beautiful Ngozumpa Glacier and the Gokyo Lake along the route.

The pristine turquoise Gokyo lake is incredibly beautiful. There is an ancient Sherpa settlement around the lake of Gokyo. The snow-capped mountains, including at Lhotse, Everest, Cho Oyu, and Makalu, will enchant you. You will stay overnight at a teahouse in Gokyo.

We start our trek to Gokyo Ri (5357m) early in the morning. You will also climb the Gokyo Ri early in the morning to observe the breathtaking sunrise from the summit of Gokyo Ri. The climb is straight and uphill as we pass through various boulders along the way.

We can observe the entire Himalayan mountain range and the pristine Gokyo lakes from the top of Gokyo Ri. We will explore around and acclimatize at the high altitude region. You can also observe the fourth and fifth Gokyo lakes, which is around 3km north of Gokyo.

The majestic views of the Everest, Cho-Oyu, Lhotse, Nuptse, Gyachung Kang and Makulu from the Scoundrel's Viewpoint overwhelms us. We can also observe the Ngozumpa Glacier, the biggest glacier in the world. You will return to Machermo from Gokyo and stay overnight at a teahouse.

After breakfast, we start the trek from Machermo to Namche. We trek along the Dudh Koshi River and pass through the Gokyo enjoying the majestic views of the Cholatse and Taboche peaks.

We will climb a hill from where we can observe the magnificent views of Cho Oyu, Thamserku, Khumbila peak, and Kangtega mountains. We pass through the Phortse Thanga and observe the waterfalls and wildflowers including rhododendrons. We can also spot rare animals like musk deer, mountain goats, pheasants, etc.

Moreover, the trail then leads us to a path on a forested slope beyond Kyung Juma before arriving at Namche Bazaar. We can observe Lhotse and the summit of Everest from Namche army camp hill. We will stay overnight at a lodge in Namche.

After breakfast, we will start our trek to Lukla from Namche. The trail leads you on a rocky trail and then crosses several suspension bridges as the path flattens out.

We then trek the same route that we took earlier to arrive at Lukla. Our Everest Gokyo Ri Trek ends at Lukla, and we celebrate the completion of the tour in the evening. We will stay overnight at a hotel in Lukla.

After breakfast, we will take a scenic flight back to Kathmandu from Lukla. Our representative will pick you up from the airport and transfer you to the hotel in Kathmandu.

Guidelines

Things to carry

 

  • Footwear: Trekking Boots (snow and water proof), normal walking boots, and floaters.
  • Few pairs of warm/woolen socks.
  • Luggage: Backpack (50 liters), Daypack (20-30 ltr), Duffel bag.
  • Clothes: Waterproof breathable jacket & pants, Jacket (synthetic or fleece of down feather), insulated pants (Synthetic), Poncho, Sweatshirt, inner thermal (upper & lower), fleece, t-shirts, cotton trekking pants, shorts. * clothing as per the season
  • Gear for Hand & Head: Liner glove, Bandanna, Sun hat, Woolen caps, Face mask etc. Accessories: Sunglasses/Goggles, anti-glare glasses, water bottle, hydra pack, Headlamp with spare bulb and extra batteries.
  • Trekking Gears: Emergency tool kit.
  • Protection and First-Aid: Sunscreen, toiletry kit, water purification tablets, Zip-lock bags, ear plugs, first-aid and all essential medicines.
  • Camping Equipment: Sleeping bags (extreme -5 to +5 Celsius) with liner, trekking poles, etc.
  • Shirts / T-shirts – 2/3, Warm shirt/light micro fleece pullover/full sleeve T shirt
  • Trekking Pants that are water resistant/repellent and having inside lining for extra warmth- 2
  • Windproof/water resistant outer shell (jacket) of good quality with a proper hood
  • Down jacket with min 600 fill power rating, Thick Fleece / Full-sleeve Woollen sweater Thermal inner wear (upper and lower)
  • Woollen cap, Inner fleece gloves, Outer water proof gloves
  • Thick woollen socks and regular socks (4 – 5 pairs), Scarf/muffler (optional)
  • Comfortable waterproof Trekking/Hiking shoes that come with a thick sole and high ankles
  • Camp shoes such as sneakers/sport shoes
