Overview

Mt. Kedardom Expedition

Greatly preached as the spiritual abode of Lord Shiva – Mount Kedar Dome or Kedarnath Dome is a highly revered and worshipped place by the people of the Hindu Community. The mountain is also recorded as the place to achieve salvation and free yourself from the cycle of birth in many religious texts of the Hindu Mythology. The high dome-shaped mountain stands at a soaring altitude of 6,832 m above the ground and is the third-highest peak among the Gangotri group of mountains in Uttarakhand. The peak is only about 2km away from the famous Kedarnath temple so, during your journey to the Kedar Dome, you will reach a viewpoint from where you get to catch a surreal view of Kedarnath temple silently nestled on the sacred land of India.

The climb to Mount Kedar Peak usually takes around 24 days to complete and has also been recognized as an easy level trekking journey by the Mountaineering Department of India. Since Kedar Dome lies on the Northwest part of Uttarakhand and you will embark on a southern side of this region so, you will face fewer challenges as compared to the treacherous journey of the Eastern side. Because it has any easy level of difficulty so, you don't need any prior technical knowledge about climbing mountains.

Next, you will get ready for a drive through the majestic lanes of the upper Uttarakhand area and get mesmerized by its untouched beauty during your journey to Gangotri. Upon reaching Gangotri, you will check in to your hotel and retire for the night.
After having breakfast with a splendid view, you will get ready to start the trek because Gangotri is the last motorable region here. You will have to walk about 14 km to a small little placse called Bhojbasa. And this journey will good enough to wake up your legs and warm them up for the later trekking journey towards the summit.

Since it is a long-distance to cover, you will enjoy a short lunch stopover at Chirbasa where you will feast on your packed lunch and bring you to enjoy back to your bones. Chirbasa is a place perched atop a hill and trekking to this place will give you some challenges but once you reach there, you will find yourself snuggled in a beautiful setting where a beautiful pine forest outlines the village.

Later, you will trek to Bhojbasa which takes you through the path settled beside the River Bhagirathi and upon reaching there, you will set up your camp and retire for a peaceful sleep.

You will also traverse a near-sheer cliff on your way to Gaumukh so, it will be a memorable journey for you.

Then, you will take a lunch stopover here at Gaumukh for an hour, and later, get ready to traverse towards your campsite region for today at Tapovan. For your journey to Tapovan, you will ascend towards greater altitude so, you may face some body stiffness problems but you will overcome all of them. Once you reach there, you will set up your campsite beside the trickling low streams. You can also take a stroll through the rich wildflower meadows of Tapovan in the evening.

On the Southwest side of Kirti Glacier, the glacier comes down to meet Gangotri Glacier and from the snout of Gangotri Glacier, River Bhagirathi flows downward towards meeting the River Ganges. After reaching Kirti Glacier, you will set up your tent and retire for the night.
The journey from Base Camp to the mountain top of Kedar Dome is quite technical and filled with the steepness and falling seracs. For this journey, you will settle into many campsites area and settle down that tiredness to resume walking with full energy next day.

For the first half of the journey, you will hop on big boulder-ridden ramps and jump on several cutting narrow ridges and also and upon reaching the place, you will also catch your first glimpse of Mount Kedar Dome. But still enjoy camping in the wilderness of the Himalayas and also witness its untouched beauty.

And for the second part of the journey, you will enjoy the real technical phase when using ice axes, crampons, and walking on snow boots becomes an everyday adventure. You will also rope down a large glacial region to reach the second base camp for this expedition. And once you retire for the night, the reality about trekking down this great mountain will feel like a dream.
After singing lullabies of summit victory all throughout the night, you will get ready for an early morning trek to descend back to Bhojbasa. Since you will be making a long journey today, you will enjoy two stopovers, one at Tapovan where you will feast on your lunch and stroll through its beautiful lush green meadows.

Later, you will back to Bhojbasa which is still a long journey to make, and upon reaching there, you will retire to your tents to sleep off the long-distance tiredness.
You will wake up early to trek down back to Gangotri but first, finish your breakfast.
