Overview

Mt. Kun Expedition

Part of the popular massif Nun-Kun, Kun mountain is sitting majestically with its twin Nun, on the Zanskar ranges of the Greater Himalayas, Kashmir. The two mountains remain the center of attraction in the Suru valley, Ladakh, as they cover the village's skyline. The professional and passionate trekkers from around the globe once in there lives wish to climb on the three high altitude ranges of Nun-Kun and the third one, Pinnacle Peak, which connects Kun through a ridge. A snowy plateau of 4 kilometers, is the only dividing line between Nun and Kun.

The mountain was first explored and climbed by Mario Piacenza and Borelli Ed Gaspard, Italian trekkers, in 1913 and the second successful climb was only in 1971, after 58 years, during an Indian Army Expedition. The reason behind such a long gap was, the ranges demand acclimatization, technique, and strength to be climbed on, making it one of the toughest expedition. Today, it is a lot easier if you are a professional and passionate. Trekkers usually go for heavy gears to climb Kun as at 19,685 ft it goes as steep as about 50 degrees
